I just wanted to say thank you for your wonderful site. I really don't know how I found it but was looking for older Harley sites. I have literally spent all day here and haven't even scratched the surface. Maybe you can help me about the bike. It's an 82 Sporty thats all original and a 25th anniversary bike. Do you know where I can find the worth of it? My husband passed away just over 2 years ago and a little over a year ago I had multiple strokes. I can no longer ride. So if you have a suggestion as to where I can go it would be greatly appreciated. But I really just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your site. I'm really looking forward to spending many days going through all of it. Thanks again.......Tess

In this photo below Becky rented this Elvis outfit 12/06 as a suprise joke for one of our favorite patients that has always called me Elvis ... We all had a lot of fun with it. ... Click on photo for low down.

Why Doc & Becky Ride Harley Davidsons?

Us long time Harley riders usually say "If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand anyway"! But I will try!! To all of us our individualized Harleys are a piece of beautiful art work that we not only look at, but touch, smell, ride & listen to! The sound, OH THAT SOUND!!! The PLEASANT deep guttural rumble! We are addicted to the sound as totally as a junky is to drugs!

Harley riders are different from the main fabric of society. This is not a bad thing! Thomas Jefferson said "I stand that, a little rebellion in a society is a good thing!" Harley - Davidson is that little rebellion against a couch potato kiss ass existence.

Many is the time I have wheeled one or more of mine out of the garage to keep me company, to look & listen to it while lounging in the sun with a great Aurturo Fuente Cigar and a good German Bier ... Or an Iced Tea! Some great music in the background .... Ah ... Life is good!

Riding our Harleys means freedom in a country & world with less freedom every day!

Riding simplifies one's life, back to the basics of survival, wind, sun, rain, smell, and temperature! It brings one as close to one's youth as possible.

It's the camaraderie of other free thinkers & exciting people! It is the only theater in life in which all strata of society mix on an equal basis!

It's that lone Harley sound at night that captures your soul!

It's getting off your bike after a 5000 mile trip & wishing you still had somewhere else to go!!!
(these last two I was reminded of by James Westmoreland)

For you wives out there, a mans mid-life crisis & an affair with a Harley Davidson is a lot better than with another woman! And a lot cheaper! (Unless it's another woman on his new Harley because you didn't let him get one! And Vice verse guys! - Hee-hee!)

Riding a Harley is a temporary escape from the cold structure of society! It's the bad to the bone clothes and attitude! It's fun to scare to death the pin stripes you went to lunch with the day before!!!

We still have 4 of the 5 Harleys we have owned. I have been riding dirt bikes & street bikes for 40 years now! We use the utmost care in our riding and in our equipment, but it is better to risk dying living, than to live one's entire life dying! .... And as I have on our race car page .... "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take" ....... "But by the moments that take our breath away!"
And if we should be one of the unfortunate to end up very old and in that rest home .... At least I'll be the one sitting over in the corner with a big smile on my face! Reliving every wonderful mile across this great USA! My head down ..... leaning gently into those long sweeping curves! The breeze & sunshine on my face! And 35 + years of riding makes for a lot of memories folks!!! CASE CLOSED!

"IF YOU ARE TO BUSY TO LEARN TO RIDE - THEN YOU ARE JUST TOO BUSY!" ... A Vern Beale quote I think.

We feel privileged to have good friends in all strata (groups) of society because of our many varied interests! If the cagers (car drivers) only knew that 99% of the bikers are just making a statement - "We don't judge or care what you look like - how much money you do or don't have - you will be accepted as our brothers, sharing the Joys, dangers and excitement of life on the open road!" "RIDE WITH PRIDE BRO!" ..... You have earned it my friend!

This is as close as I, doc Hemp, can come to explaining the elusive Harley mystique! Please excuse the verbosity & prolixity .... but it is very difficult to package these deep soul stirring multifarious feelings in a brief or brusque manner without making the Harley experience seem pejorative.

Also, as Americans we are proud of Willie G. Davidson & the other 10 - Vern Beale, Chuck Thompson, James Patterson, Rich Teerlink, etc. (that bought Harley Davidson back from AMF) and saved H.D. one day away from oblivion.
Becky & I bought stock in the company just on the principal of it years ago! We wanted to be just a small part in saving an American Tradition!!! I will not sell it unless the Co. reverts back to the AMF Bowling Ball days!!!! ..... (although the top of Willy G's head is looking a little more like one every year ... Hee-hee!)

Becky & I have had Bill Davidson & Joe Dowd out fishing with us. Mike Keefe has played & stayed and hunted with us. Paul Raap in charge of H.D. events world wide is still a great friend to this day .. 2003 and stops in for a hello whenever he is by our way, etc. We had the privilege of leading the Reno Western National H.D. Parade with Joe Dowd & Rich & Ann Teerlink. I mention this because because we met all these people years ago just by walking up & introducing our selves & helping at motorcycle rally's, etc. This is America! There is not another Corp. that I know of where the top people are out there to meet with you face to face! I know them just enough to know that these are SOLID MORAL American PEOPLE!
Those of you that have known Harley Davidson for a long time will recognize these names as a pleasant blast from the past.
Tail winds & sunshine,
Doc & Becky Hemp

Please go with us on our trips to Sturgis SD 4 times so far! Becky has ridden all the way out & back too, over 4000 miles for us.

Photo of Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell as shown in the fall Enthusiast Magazine, I added the print & airbrush on the photo. I have met Ben several times! I Had him autograph a Tee shirt, for a Harley riding Sheriff friend of ours at Willie G's induction into the motorcycle hall of fame at Sturgis SD in 1993 that Becky & I were invited to. In fact Willie G & Nancy signed the same shirt too! (now I wish we had gotten one signed for our selves also!) Ben is my idea of an honest politician that shuns a suit & tie and just takes care of business! He is another like us that can cross into many different worlds & can see that none of them is really different at all!! Plus he is a Republican!!

Below, check out the 1997 Limited Edition Heritage Springer with it's designers
